The Receipt Pal app is as simple as receipt scanning apps get.
You just snap a picture, and that is it.
Most other receipt scanning apps, though easy, require extra steps.
This is not true with Receipt Pal again.
Of course, with minimal work, it pays less than bigger apps like Ibotta and Shopkick.
Is it worth your time?
Honestly, I find this as effortless as apps can get, so the answer is yes.

They will just put some spare change in your pocket.
Spare change can add up to hundreds of dollars or more, so that is not bad.
The best thing is to stack as many receipt scanning apps as possible.

What is Receipt Pal?
Receipt Pal is owned by the NPD Group, Inc.
NPD has been around since 1966 and is one of the top ten market research companies.
Receipt Pal was launched in 2013.
So, your receipts are collected for market research purposes.
The information collected from your receipts is kept private.
The concept of Receipt Pal is to give you rewards for pictures of your receipts.
Unlike similar app Receipt Hog, your receipts can be from any store.
Both digital and paper receipts are accepted too.
To process a digital receipt, you connect your email.
How does Receipt Pal work?
You earn points every time you scan a receipt.
You get 25 points for each receipt.
The app is set up with cards.
Each card has four receipts (25 points each) and earns you 100 points.
Your receipt cannot be older than a week.
Initially, you will get 4 cards a week.
This means that after a month you can cash out 2000 points, the minimum.
Sample rewards include gift cards to:
- Walmart
- Target
- Starbuck’s
Later, you will get only 3 cards a week, so it will take 6 weeks to meet the minimum to cash out.
Keep in mind that you get more value for your points by waiting for bigger redemptions.
This will be explained in a later section.
What receipts does Receipt Pal accept?
Again, Receipt Pal accepts receipts from any retail store.
They do not accept written receipts or bills though.
This is different from other apps.
Again, apps like Receipt Hog limit you to gas, grocery, or convenience store receipts.
Fetch now also accepts receipts from other stores besides gas and grocery, but you get less points for those receipts.
I like that Receipt Pal accepts any receipt.
How much can you make with Receipt Pal?
Receipt Pal gives the following rewards:
Level 1 Rewards
- $5 Amazon gift card (2000 points)
- $5 Retail Gift Card (Starbuck’s, Walmart, Target, etc)
Level 2 Rewards
- $10 Amazon gift card (3200 points)
- $10 Retail gift card
Level 3 Rewards
- $25 Amazon gift card (7500 points)
- $25 Retail gift card (7500 points)
Level 4 Rewards
- $50 Amazon gift card (14,000 points)
- $100 Amazon gift card (26,000 points)
As you can see, the longer you let your rewards built, the more value you get again.
In general, the average user earns $60-$100 per year with Receipt Pal.
The app only pays in gift cards.
Receipt Pal only has a couple of gift cards to offer also.
On my last redemption, I was offered the following gift cards:
- Amazon
- Walmart
- Target
- Starbuck’s
They don’t have a lot of gift cards, but the ones they have are to popular stores.
Again, people ear between $60-$100 per year.
If you went the least valuable way and only did level one redemptions, you would get about $60 a year.
If you let your points built up, it would be more, like $80-$100 per year.
That is still about $7 per month which sounds small.
I almost don’t notice this in my day though.

Scan A Receipt Within 90 Days Or Lose All Your Points
If you do not scan a receipt within 90 days, you will lose all your points.
I like to scan receipts the day I get them.
Referrals
Sometimes, Receipt Pal has a promotion to get referrals.
When this happens, you can get 250 extra points per referral.
People say this does not happen often, but I have been able to refer people all year long.
The only problem is they seem to have a cap on new members.
All the people I referred were told they would be put on a waiting list to join.
If you get this message, just join the waiting list.
Receipt Pal vs Receipt Hog vs Fetch
I use all three of these apps.
I think Fetch is the more popular app.

Honestly, I just snap a picture of a receipt for all three at the same time and triple my profit.
You can also add Swagbuck’s as a fourth app (scan receipts with Swagbuck”s now).
Again, receipt scanning apps are best when they are stacked.
i just take my pictures for all three as well as Swagbuck’s back to back again.

Just go to the “account” section, and you will see all your receipts.

My Personal Take
I have been using Receipt Pal for over two years.
I have had no problems scanning receipts or getting my rewards, so my experience is positive.
Again, your points get more valuable the longer you let them built, but if you want the simple $5 gift card, you can usually get one about every 6 weeks.
The gift cards are to popular stores again.
Honestly, I barely notice this in my day.
It is best to scan receipts daily or as often as you get them.
I scan receipts for Receipt Pal, Receipt Hog, Fetch, and Swagbuck’s at the same time again.
You just take a picture of the same receipt.
Honestly, other apps like Ibotta and Shopkick require more than a quick snap of a receipt, so Receipt Pal is as simple as it gets.
Again, I don’t notice this in my day.
