There are hundreds of ways to do that.

There is everything from saving on dining out to groceries to cutting cable.

Receipt scanning apps are an easy way to put some extra money back in your pocket with little time.

I talk about them often.

We even have a page here where you can make an extra $100 per month.

Most just require that you take a picture of your receipt too.

That takes seconds.

I said I would review as many receipt scanning apps as possible over time.

The Fetch App is pretty popular.

I have been using it for a while although it is newer than the other apps (a couple years old).

So here is the review.

Fetch is one of my favorite apps.

It is easy and quick.

It only pays in gift cards though.

I use it to get Target, Walmart, Starbucks, and other restaurant gift cards each month.

I like getting a free gift card by using Fetch and these other two apps each month.

Again, I enjoy a beverage at Starbucks or a meal at my favorite restaurants like Chipotle.

What are receipt scanning apps?

Receipt scanning apps are apps that require you to take a picture of your receipt.

Most are for grocery receipts, but some like Receipt Pal, will accept any receipt.

Most require you to have a smartphone to download the app.

These apps reward you for purchasing items that you would buy anyway.

Again, most just require that you take a picture of your receipt.

What is the Fetch Reward App?

Fetch is a free mobile app that gives you cash back for your grocery receipts.

They also except gas station and convenience store receipts.

Until recently, you did not get points for restaurant and other receipts though.

Now, you get points for restaurant receipts.

You even get points for e-receipts.

One main difference between Fetch and other receipt scanning apps like Ibotta is that your receipts can be from any grocery store or convenience store.

Popular app Ibotta requires a certain grocery store.

Fetch uses your receipt for market research.

How do you get points?

Points currency on Fetch is intuitive.

Every 1000 points equals $1.

Generally, you can earn between $.025 to $2 for each offer.

You get points in three ways:

1. Scan special offers

Special offers give you more points than other offers.

You see these on the home page.

I always take a look at these offers because they give you the most points again.

One of these offers could give you enough for a $3 gift cards, the minimum gift card payout.

For example, a “special offer” right now is for 1250 points for Cottonelle Bath Tissue.

You can scan 35 receipts per week.

So you need to choose these offers first.

2. Certain name brands

After the “special offers,” brand offers will give you the second highest amount of points.

It is not as much as the “special offers,” but it is more than base offers.

For example, you could get 50 points for scanning a Kraft product.

If you did enough of those, it would add up.

3. Points for any item

Last, you will get 25 base points or $.025 for all other receipts.

Use these receipts last because they are worth less.

So if you don’t have a receipt with a “special offer” or brand points, then you go for these.

When I first started, I used only receipts like these.

This still get me a $5 gift card every month.

You can get much more than that if you buy name brand products again though.

Again, you can upload 35 receipts per week.

How do you sign up for the Fetch Rewards App?

1. Register

You just need a username, or you can use your Facebook account.

You get 200 points or $2 for signing up.

To get your $2 reward, type in promo code X4VMA after you scan your first grocery or convenience store receipt.

You must scan your first receipt to receive this bonus again.

2. Browse the offers

Look at the home page to see the offers.

Some offers can only be used twice.

3. Scan your receipts

The receipt has to include the date, store name, etc.

If you take a picture of the entire receipt, everything will be included.

4. Cash out

You can cash out at 3000 points or $3.

Since points are from 25 to 2000 points, most people will cash out quickly.

You then get to choose a gift card.

How does the Fetch Rewards App Pay?

Fetch mostly pays with gift cards again.

They have a large supply of cards.

Here are some categories of gift cards:

Art
Restaurants
Retail
Beauty
Electronics
Fashion
Home Goods
Pets
Spa
Travel

I generally cash out with Target and Walmart.

A lot of people like Amazon though.

You can cash out at 300 points or $3 at Target and Amazon.

Most other cards require 500 points or $5 though.

They have a Mastercard virtual card you can use online and A Visa one you can use in stores.

I have never used these.

I just go for gift cards.

I usually prefer PayPal.

They do not yet offer PayPal, so my choice is gift cards.

I have heard people have trouble with virtual Mastercard and Visa cards, so I never took the time to try.

They could be fine though.

How much can you make?

I get a $5 gift card every month.

I know that is not much, but for about 60 seconds to scan a receipt, it is a good deal.

That is much more than things like surveys.

I don’t buy a lot of name brand products though.

They tend to have a lot of name brand beauty care products in addition to other name brand grocery products.

Since I buy neither of those, I make less.

I buy a lot of generic organic products like Whole Foods 365 in groceries.

I don’t buy a lot of beauty care products at all.

If you buy name brands products, you probably can make much more again.

Tips to use:

Use the “special offers”
Look at the brand products page
Know there is a weekly limit of 11 receipts, so use wisely
Submit your receipts within 14 days
Take a clear picture of your receipts
Combine with other apps like Ibotta, Checkout 51, etc.

Other receipt scanning apps to use

1. Ibotta

Registration Bonus: $5-$20, depending on promotion

Ibotta is probably the most popular grocery app.

It has the most offers and tends to pay the most.

2. Checkout 51

Registration bonus: None (though they have some good offers for gas now).

Checkout 51 is one of the oldest apps.

It works similar to Ibotta.

You can probably use some of the same offers and double dip.

It does not have as many offers as Ibotta again, but free money is free money.

3. Receipt Pal

Registration bonus: 250 points

Receipt Pal is similar to Fetch and takes seconds to use. You can also scan any receipt.

4. Receipt Hog

Registration bonus: None

Receipt Hog is similar to Receipt Pal. It is simple and easy to use.

5. Saving Star

Registration bonus: None

Saving Star is similar to Ibotta and Checkout 51.

Summary

Receipt scanning apps are an easy way to earn some extra cash with little time.

The Fetch app is pretty popular.

Again, it is newer than other apps.

When getting any form of free money, time has to be considered.

I like Fetch because it takes me little time.

Nothing we review will allow you to quit your day job.

The magic in receipt scanning apps and other ways to put money back in your pocket is to combine these methods.
