I love magazines.
It must be the Generation X in me.
If you love magazines, you can get subscriptions for free.
In the last couple of years, I have gotten subscriptions to Conde Nast Traveler, Bon Appetit, Vogue, and Entrepreneur free.
That is not the complete list either.
Basically, I have more free subscriptions than I can read.
A magazine subscription is cheaper than buying a magazine in a store.
No one should ever buy a magazine in store.
Why pay even that much though when you can get subscriptions for free or dirt cheap?
All my subscriptions have come for free the last couple years.
However, if a particular subscription you want is not free, you can pay as little as $2 for a yearly subscription.
Before I knew how to get free or cheap magazines, I would try advertised free offers.
They never worked.
Now, since I get magazine subscriptions for free in the present and got them dirt cheap in the past, I wanted to help you save money.
Here are ways you can get free or cheap subscriptions.
4 Ways To Get Free or Cheap Magazine Subscriptions
1. Doctor of Credit/Dans Deals/Mercury Magazine
Most of my free magazines come from Mercury Magazine.
They give out free subscriptions.
They claim to not make a profit except for advertising.

During short time periods, they offer certain subscriptions free.
You have to act quickly when this occurs.
They run out fast.
This updated blog post at Doctor of Credit lets you know the latest free offers.

They keep an updated list too.
You don’t even need to put your credit card information in.

2. Swagbucks
Swagbucks has free offers for magazines too.
Most subscriptions are free for first time users to whichever company.
Here is a good offer I used in the past:
- Blue Dolphin Magazines
Offers change on Swagbucks, so you can type “magazines” in the Swagbucks search button to see if there are other offers.
Offers are for new members to these programs again, but I was actually offered five free magazines the second year after I went to cancel Blue Dolphin.
3. Fetch
Fetch gave me free magazine subscriptions in the past.
I got three free magazines subscriptions from Fetch by email a couple years ago.
You can redeem $5 or 5000 Fetch points for various yearly magazine subscriptions.
Honestly, since most of my subscriptions come for free, I would save your Fetch points for other things.
Look for free offers by email though.
4. Discount mail or email offers
I have received several good offers by email or in the mail, so I would subscribe to your favorite magazine’s email list.
For instance, Vogue is usually $20 a year, but I got an offer in the mail for $10.
Magazines always offer better subscriptions to new members instead of renewals, so I never renew.
At worst I have gotten the discounted subscription for new members again after I cancel and start a new subscription.
Again, since I get free magazines I have not even paid $10 in a very long time, but if there is a particular magazine you can’t find for free, this is good method also.

5. Discounted magazine companies
Discounted magazine companies can save you a bundle.
Here are some:
- BlueDolphin.com
- Magazines.com
- DiscountMags.co
6. Amazon
Amazon can save you money on magazines too.
Make sure to check the fine print because the terms are not always for a year.
7. Airline miles and credit card reward programs
You can use your airline miles for magazines.
Not everyone cares about travel.
This is actually not a good use of airline miles if you care about travel though.
Again, some people may not care about travel.
If you want to travel, I would not recommend using your airline miles though again.
7. Buy digital
Digital is usually cheaper.
There are a lot of programs that will give you free digital magazines.
You can try the Texture app.
It is about $8 a month but free for the first two weeks.
8. Prime Reading
Amazon Prime members can enjoy Prime Reading.
These provide access to books, magazines, etc.
You get to read these publications for free.
9. Library or bookstore
If all else fails, you can just read a popular issue at the library or bookstore.
Older newspapers and magazines can be checked out at the library and taken home.
New issues most be read at the library though.
Summary
In this day and age, no one should buy a magazine at the store.
Although subscriptions are cheaper than buying a magazine at the store, they can still be costly.
I have not paid for a magazine subscription in years.
I get so many subscriptions for free,.
I think you should too.
Why pay for something you can get for free?
I mentioned some of these other ideas that cost in case you can’t get your favorite magazines free again.
Then, you can pay no more than $2 a year or close to it.
