Happy hour is not just for drinks.
Honestly, I have not paid attention to happy hour for a long time.
Recently, I found out that many chain restaurants offer appetizers half off during this time again.
I have been taking advantage of this lately.
For instance, I had a Chicken Quesadilla at Applebees for $5.
I had a chicken lettuce wrap at P.F. Chang for $6.
I had boneless wings at Chilis for $6.
Most chain restaurants offer similar discounted appetizers.
If the restaurant does not offer these appetizers, you can always order the lunch special at your favorite chain.
Again, you will usually spend $5-6 for an appetizer that is usually over $10 for the happy hour specials.
Dining out is an area where most people can stand to save money.
Some of the appetizers include a lot of food.
Why spend more on dining out than necessary?
Of course, if you want a drink, you will spend more with your appetizer though those are discounted too.

What is Happy Hour?
Happy hour is the time of day when drinks and appetizers are discounted at restaurants.
It usually takes place during the period after work until when the dinner crowd arrives.
This is usually a slow time for restaurants.
Many people are familiar with happy hour as a time to have a drink and socialize with friends after work.
Exactly when does happy hour occur?
Usually, happy hour usually occurs between 3-7 p.m.
Happy hour is different at each chain restaurant though.
It will vary by the restaurant’s location too, so check your local chain.
For instance, the Applebees in my area has happy hour from 3-6 p.m.
P.F. Chang had happy hour from 4-6 p.m.
Some restaurants offer a second happy hour from 7 pm to closing, so again check your chain as well as location.
What are the prices of appetizers during happy hour?
The prices will vary, even within the same chain according to location.
For instance, at the Applebees I went to, on two different days, I got boneless wings and a Chicken Quesadilla for half off, which was $5 at my location.
Applebees did require that I purchase a beverage of some kind though.
You can choose orange juice or soda instead of an alcoholic beverage though.
If you drink alcohol, you could purchase a drink for cheap I believe.
At P.F. Chang, I did not have to purchase a drink and got to select from Street Fare Appetizers like:
- lettuce wraps
- sushi
- dumplings
Happy hour at P.F. Chang has been discontinued but maybe other restaurants offer similar items.
At Chili’s, I did not have to purchase a drink and could choose from:
- $3 Chips & Salsa
- $4 Cheese fries
- $6 Boneless wings

Basically, the most popular casual dining restaurants will definitely offer discounted appetizers.
Here are some of the most popular chains that offer happy hour appetizers:

- Red Robin
